The Government of Serbia has adopted the Draft Law on taking out a loan from OTP Bank for the purposes of the financing of the construction of the Pozarevac-Golubac fast route, the so-called Danube Main Road, or the Danube Corridor. This is a long-term investment credit of RSD 16 billion (around EUR 136.2 million), with a repayment period of 10 years.

As said in the draft law, the state will take out a loan with a changeable interest, at a nominal interest rate that matches the reference interest rate of a three-month BELIBOR (3M BELIBOR), increased by a margin of 3.85 percentage points on an annual level. The funds for the repayment of the loan will be secured from the state budget.

Let us remind that the agreement on the construction of the fast route from Pozarevac to Golubac, worth EUR 337 million, was signed in August 2021 with the Chinese company Shandong Hi-Speed Group. At the signing the agreement, it was announced that the deadline for the completion of the works was November 2024.

In October 2022, the previous minister of construction, transport and infrastructure, Tomislav Momirovic, announced the connecting of Pozarevac with Corridor 10 by the end of 2023.

The project of the construction of IB-grade state road, fast route section: highway Belgrade-Nis (Pozarevac interchange)-Pozarevac (bypass route)-Veliko Gradiste-Golubac has been pronounced a project of special importance for the Republic of Serbia.

The fast route will be 68 kilometers long, with two traffic lanes in each direction, 3.5 meters wide. This traffic route will connect to the Danube Main Road and thereby connect this part of the eastern Serbia.

According to the Law on the Budget of the Republic of Serbia for 2023, the taking out of loans from commercial banks for this project in the total amount of RSD 31.8 billion is approved.
