Beginning of Construction of First “Green Dam” in Serbia Which Will Supply 500,000 People with Drinking Water

Within the realization of the project “Construction of the Dam with the Reservoir Arilje-Svrackovo Profile”, the works on diverting the Rzav river through a hydro tunnel, which will enable the excavation and construction works on the establishment of the cofferdam and the dam and all the other works in the phase of the diversion of the river, the company Srbijavode announced.

The director of Srbijavode, Goran Puzovic, took a tour of the finished works on the diverting of the river Rzav together with his associates, following which the preparatory works for the beginning of the main part of the project, that is, the construction of the body of the embankment dam, will start. He pointed out that it would be the first green reservoir in Serbia.

The planned embankment dam “Arilje-Svrackovo Profile” is 68 meters tall and belongs in the category of tall dams, and the completion of this capital investment will secure clean drinking water for 500,000 residents of the city of Cacak and the municipalities of Gornji Milanovac, Arilje, Pozega and Lucani.

In 2023, the focus on the execution of the works was on ameliorating the landslide above the spillway, so as to enable the execution of further works on the transition section. The works on the shaft spillway and the hydro tunnel were done, whereas the intake tower with an assembled footbridge was completed.

– Also, in the previous period, the injecting of the grout curtain on the dam was carried out, and the construction of the transition section (the exit from the hydro tunnel), whose execution was a precondition for the diverting of the river Rzav, was completed. The construction of the shaft shutter of the energy tunnel is in progress, and the injection of the energy tunnel is planned as well – they say at Srbijavode.
