The first works on the tunnel from Karadjordjeva Street at the Faculty of Economics to Despota Stefana Blvd, announced for decades, according to the most recent information, should start in late April or early May. According to the president of the Temporary Organ of the City of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, “the shortening of the methodology of the construction of that tunnel has succeeded” and the first works are planned to begin in Despota Stefana Blvd.

While visiting the new section of Zorana Djindjica Blvd, Sapic pointed out that, in the future, Vladimira Popovica Street would be the main boulevard which would go through a roundabout, and then to the next roundabout and then rightward to the new Sava bridge and the connection to the future tunnel. He noted that the roundabout that had been built not that long before in Vladimira Popovica Street was extremely large because the intention was for the street to be expanded by an additional lane in each direction in its extension.

– We are currently working on making the next intersection passable and establishing a leg toward Branko’s Bridge. It is important for the dynamics of the works to be such that, once the removal of the Old Sava Bridge starts, the intersection in fact becomes the traffic route to Branko’s Bridge – Sapic pointed out, adding that the plan was to use shuttle buses, which would enable switching across Branko’s Bridge rightward to Gavrila Principa Street and then to Nemanjina Street, from which the trams would operate normally.
