Reconstruction of Railroad from Nis to Dimitrovgrad to Begin in August, Minister Announces

The reconstruction of the railroad from Nis to Dimitrovgrad will begin in August, announced the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, and added that the works had been expected to begin for five years at that point, the ministry announced.

– Within that project is also the ring road around Nis. The first-degree contest has been completed and now financial bids are sought from the companies which have passed the first round – Vesic said.

He adds that, at the session of the Committee for Spatial Planning of the National Assembly of Serbia, at which the Report on the ministry’s operations was adopted, they had talked about the construction of regional railroads which had been applied with the European Union.

– We talked about the joint projects with the Government of North Macedonia for the fast railroad from Nis to Skopje, with the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina about the railroad from Belgrade to Sarajevo, with the Government of Hungary about the railroad from Subotica to Baja, as well as with the Government of Bulgaria about the railroad from Negotin to Vidin – Vesic said.

He added that the law on the interoperability of rail transport had been adopted that day at the committee.

– That entails the harmonization of all the rail regulations with the EU regulations. After it is adopted, everything will be harmonized when it comes to the Law on Rail Transport, and by the end of the year, I’ve announced the Law on Rail Traffic Safety, which will lead to all railroads in populated places having protective fences, increasing the safety – Vesic said.
