The Knjazevac-Zajecar-Prahovo railroad will be reconstructed after 60 years. The railroad which is mostly used for the transport of hazardous matters was built ahead of the First World War and reconstructed in 1962. The dilapidated railroad drew public attention at the end of last year, when a tank car transporting phosphoric acid derailed near Zajecar.

After this accident, but also the similar ones that occurred not long after in Pirot and Pancevo, the state finally decided to rebuild this railway, and the company Serbian Railways Infrastructure has now opened three tenders for the works on strengthening the superstructure on the sections Knjazevac-Zajecar, Zajecar-Prahovo and Rasputnica 1-Trnavac (Prahovo).

The reconstruction on all three sections entails the disassembly of the existing track and the laying down of a track with used rails and new concrete ties, as well as the development of the track structure on the road crossings.

The tender for the Zajecar-Prahovo section is open until April 10, and the tenders for the remaining two sections are open until March 21.
