In the Beli Potok tunnel, on the bypass route around Belgrade, the finishing coverings are being set up, whereby it will be structurally completed, following which the equipping will be done and traffic will open through the Beli Potok tunnel and on the entire bypass route from June 1, the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, said while visiting the site.

Vesic specified that the section of the bypass route around Belgrade from Strazevica to Bubanj Potok was 9.6 kilometers long, and that, in addition to the Beli Potok tunnel, with two tubes 360 meters long each, it also encompassed two bridges 913 meters long, four overpasses 870 meters long and two interchanges, Avala and Bubanj Potok, according to the ministry’s website.

The minister emphasized that the bypass route around Belgrade to Bubanj Potok, the construction of which had started in 1991, would finally be completed on June 1.

He added that what remained to be done was to build part of the bypass route to Pancevo, 31 kilometers long, and that its designing was in progress at that moment. Vesic said that, within it, a large road and rail bridge would be built near Vinca, meaning that Belgrade would thereby also get a rail bypass route.

– Already now, from June, transit passenger and cargo traffic will no longer go across the Gazela Bridge and we will substantially unload the city center and reduce the pollution – the minister emphasized.

Vesic announced that, when the section to Bubanj Potok opened to traffic, the hard shoulder on the highway through Belgrade would be turned into a yellow strip, available to public transport vehicles, taxis, ambulances, police vehicles, thereby accelerating the public transport across the Gazela Bridge.
