The first analyzes of the Serbian companies' participation at the recently held International Organic Food Fair Biofach 2022 in Nuremberg show that companies from Serbia had about 300 bilateral discussions with partners from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Israel, the USA, Estonia and Turkey. The value of new export business is estimated at around EUR 5 million.

- The fair was an opportunity for our companies to strengthen their position on extremely demanding foreign markets in the organic industry. Serbia is recognized as a premium quality producer and as such can handle competition from all over Europe. Our companies operating in this sector follow global trends, as evidenced by the large number of meetings they had during the fair - says Ivan Lazic from the Organic Production Service of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

As he pointed out, "the new Law on Organic Production, expected to be adopted by the end of this year, will contribute to the faster development of this sector in Serbia. The Law will be in full compliance with the new EU regulations." This, he says, will allow our producers an even easier access to the markets of the EU and other countries.

Lazic reminded that at this year's Biofach 2022, with the support of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the Development Agency of Serbia, the Swiss export promotion program SIPPO and the organization Serbia Organica, nine organic food producers participated at the fair and presented their export program at one of the leading international exhibition which gathered 2,200 exhibitors from 94 countries, including global organic food producers, distributors, trade chains, as well as leading experts in the field of the food industry.

According to the website of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, as part of the fair, a round table was held on the topic of the development of organic production in Serbia. The participants pointed out that the organic sector is gaining more and more importance, that there are more and more areas under organic planting, and the number of producers involved in organic production is also growing. The value of exports in 2021 has increased by 57.4% compared to 2020.
