The construction of the Center for Sports and Recreation of the University of Belgrade is planned in Bezanijska Kosa. The value of this state project is around EUR 40 million, and according to the initial plan, it will be realized in two phases, under the aegis of the Office for Public Investment Management, according to the website of the University of Belgrade.

In early April, the project was presented at the Palace of Serbia, and the presentation was attended by experts from the design team and representatives of the University of Belgrade and the Office for Public Investment Management, which is the investor in the project.

As Novosti reports, the works should start in the autumn.

According to professor Dr Ratko Ristic, the deputy rector for international cooperation of the University of Belgrade, the complex will be located next to the National Volleyball Center and spread on around ten hectares.

– The sports features will primarily be meant for students of all the faculties within the University of Belgrade. The sports complex will feature tennis, football, volleyball and other sports courts. However, they are also planned to be used for commercial purposes, so it will possible to rent space and organize seminars as well – Ristic said.

The parcels are located within the block bordered by Arsenija Carnojevica Blvd, Tosin Bunar Street, Partizanske Avijacije Street and Blagoja Marjanovica Street. There is already a stadium in that location, which, with the existing field and the race track, will remain in the same position, except that they will be reconstructed and repurposed into other sports fields, Novosti writes.

The grass field is reserved for football (soccer), rugby and American football matches. The existing concrete stands will be reconstructed, so the capacity will increase from 3,000 to 5,000 seats.

Three sports courts, a main one and two auxiliary ones, will be built. They will also feature an administrative part with a conference center with a gym, a hall for cultural-arts associations, table tennis, squash…

The construction of the facility will create the conditions for physical education and sports practice at the university. It will contribute to reducing the costs of scheduling appointments at third parties. Also, it will create conditions for the organization of student tournaments, primarily the University Games, planned for next year.
