The administration of the US President Joe Biden will abandon the sanctions against the company and the responsible person from that company for being engaged in the construction of Nord Stream 2 to Germany, according to the findings of two sources familiar with the decision.

According to the axios.com portal, the decision indicates that Biden’s administration is not willing to jeopardize its relations with Germany due to the gas pipeline and reveals the difficulties that Biden is facing regarding a stricter rhetoric toward Russia.

The State Department will immediately send its mandatory 90-day report to the Congress, featuring a list companies and individuals involved in the Nord Stream 2 project that deserve sanctions, Axios adds.

A source close to the issue told Axios that the State Department planned to impose sanctions against numerous Russian ships and that, reading between the lines, this move by the president’s administration led to a bizarre situation in which they are to penalize the ships, but not the company in charge of the construction project.
