There are 2.4 million citizens registered at the eGovernment portal, who use more than 350 different electronic services. In 2025, there will be more additional services which should facilitate and simplify things for citizens. The service of a digital wallet which entails the keeping of personal documents in an electronic form should first be enabled for the driver’s license and the health insurance card, the director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Mihailo Jovanovic, says for RTS.

Mihailo Jovanovic says that there are efforts toward having the citizens fully switch to using mobile apps when it comes to administrative services. He notes that the eGovernment will adapt all the apps and launch a big one.

When it comes to the digital wallet, Jovanovic says that it is an initiative which is implemented at the level of the European Union and that it will enable citizens to keep their documents in an electronic form.

As he announces, primarily, by the end of the year, this should be enabled for the driver’s license and the health insurance card. The director of the Office for IT and eGovernment expects this to also be enabled for ID cards and passports later on.

According to him, the implementation of that service also depends on the European Union and how fast Brussels adapts its systems.

He points out that, for citizens who don’t want documents in an electronic form, it will be enabled for the documents to remain in a physical form. Still, Jovanovic advises that it is much safer to have documents in a digital wallet.

– That piece of plastic can be misplaced, someone can steal it and misuse it. And on a mobile phone, it’s safer, because we use different methods of logging into those mobile apps which entail two factors. So, you have to confirm your identity and that is much safer and more secure – emphasizes Jovanovic.
