Stellantis, the automotive group which owns several companies, including a majority part of the factory in Kragujevac, will invest around USD 176 million (EUR 160 million) to launch a 100% electric compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in 2025, Reuters reports

The upcoming EV will be based on the STLA Medium platform, which is designed for premium vehicles 4,200-5,000 mm long and can take batteries of 87-105 kWh for distances up to 700 km.

In addition to that, according to the first information that Stellantis announced regarding its new EV platforms, the STLA Medium architecture can be used for powertrains of 125-330 kW, for front-, back- or four-wheel drives.

Reuters reports that the group will invest in its factory in Rennes, France, the setting up of a battery assembly workshop as well as one dedicated to plastic injection molding. At the moment, the French factory produces Peugeot 5008 and Citroen C5 Aircross, but both models will probably be replaced by these new models, code-named CR3.

Asked whether the new vehicle would be available as anything other than a 100% electric model, CEO Carlos Tavares told the press: "In principle no".
