At the moment, there are several significant uncertainties in the upcoming period that could have an unfavorable impact on the country’s financial position, stated Dejan Soskic, a professor at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade.

Soskic, also a former governor of the National Bank of Serbia, stated for the Vreme weekly that those were uncertainties regarding the price of the import of oil and gas in the next period and whether the supply would be regular.

– Another question is whether EPS would be able to meet the needs for electricity and, if not, at which price we will import electricity in the coming period. The third question is to what extent the interest rate on the financing of the country’s public debt will increase in the coming period. Finally, how the Ukrainian crisis will reflect on economic activities in Serbia in the next period, and consequently, on the country’s budget revenues – Soskic said.

He pointed out that “in the conditions of such uncertainties, each raising of salaries and pensions above the inflation rate is a risky move from the financial angle”.

He adds that the current announcements counter the monetary and fiscal policies.
