The price of the construction of the first two lines of the Belgrade Subway could increase from the current EUR 4.6 billion to over EUR 5 billion, announced the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. While visiting the construction site where the embankment for the depot of the future subway is being established in Makis, he said that the price increase could occur due to the increase in the prices of building materials.

– If you look at the first two lines alone, that could be 4 billion and 600 thousand, and knowing how the prices of building materials are growing, it will go over 5 billion, which is an incentive for the further growth and higher salaries – Vucic said.

Recently, the director the PUE Beogradski metro i voz, Stanko Kantar, hinted for eKapija that the increase in the prices of building materials could lead to an increase in the price of the subway construction.

– A change in the price of construction materials, labor force, economic and other factors can influence the price of the construction of the subway, as well as any other construction project. To what extent this will influence the Belgrade subway will only become apparent after the detailed analyses that are being done now and that are yet to be done – Kantar told our portal.

Let us remind that the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, recently said that EUR 4.6 billion would be set aside for the first two subway lines and that the Government of Serbia would finance the project.

– EUR 4.6 billion for the first two subway lines, that’s four annual budgets of the City of Belgrade. The city could not finance it by itself – Vesic said.

A year ago, according to the announcements made by Vesic at the time, the price was lower by EUR 200 million.

– The Belgrade Subway project is worth EUR 4.4 billion. The first line is worth EUR 1.8 billion, and the second is worth EUR 2.2 billion – Vesic said in October 2020.

At the end of December 2018, when the company for the construction of the subway system was founded by a decision of the City Assembly of Belgrade, Vesic stated that the total value of the works would amount to EUR 3.6 billion, of which the first phase was supposed to cost EUR 1.3 billion.
