Agreement on Migration of Belgrade Stock Exchange to Trading Platform of Athens Stock Exchange Signed

The agreement for the provision of trading facilities by migrating the Belgrade Stock Exchange’s trading activities as Market Operator to the Trading platform of the Athens Stock Exchange’s was signed on November 25, 2021, in Athens. The signing of this agreement is the next step of the mutual desire of both organizations to cooperate closely and to promote a broader regional cooperation, initially realized by the participation of the Athens Stock Exchange in the shareholding structure of the Belgrade Stock Exchange, as announced on August 5, 2021, the Belgrade Stock Exchange announced on its website.

It is added that both teams have initiated the deployment activities aiming to migrate the trading activities of the Belgrade Stock Exchange to the Common Trading Platform and that, as a result, all partners (Athens Stock Exchange, Belgrade Stock Exchange, Cyprus Stock Exchange) and their associated investment community will collectively increase their operational efficiency, improve market liquidity, enhance their business opportunities and thus efficiently support local economies’ development.

The agreement also stresses the commitment of the Athens Stock Exchange to actively support the strategic endeavor of the Belgrade Stock Exchange to develop the Serbian capital market into an international benchmarked market.

Socrates Lazaridis, CEO of Athens Stock Exchange, said that they were excited to partner with the Belgrade Stock Exchange in the context of the Common Platform concept.

– Through it, we aim to strengthen our markets network increasing the diversity of the investor base and offering new investment opportunities for local and international investors, and in turn expand the range of products traded in the markets – Lazaridis said and added that both stock exchanges shared a common vision to emphasize the role of their markets in the local economy by facilitating global connectedness and building a widely interconnected supportive regional network.

– The migration of the Belgrade Stock Exchange’s trading activities to the trading platform of the Athens Stock Exchange reflects our firm commitment not only to further strengthen our cooperation but also our ultimate goal to improve overall market efficiency, transparency and certainty by delivering trading facilities fully compliant with the EU regulation, to all market participants – said Sinisa Krneta, CEO of the Belgrade Stock Exchange.
