Today at the Black Sea coast of Turkey, the deep-water pipelay for Line 1 of the TurkStream offshore gas pipeline has been completed, the Russian company Gazprom announced.

Gazprom, which plans to complete the pipeline in 2019, said in a statement that 1,161 km of pipe had been laid since it began construction last year, Reuters reports

The average rate of the deep-water pipelay carried out by the pipelaying vessel Pioneering Spirit was 4.3 km/day, Gazprom says, as reported by the Russian agency Tass.

The maximum pipelaying rate – 5.6 km/day – was reached twice in February 2018.

Following the works schedule, Pioneering Spirit will continue the deep-water pipelay of Line 2 in the third quarter of 2018, Gazprom says in its press release.

The first line of the TurkStream pipeline will supply Turkey alone, whereas the second one will deliver Russian gas to south and southeast Europe.

Each line will have a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas a year, and the total value of the project has been estimated at EUR 11.4 billion.
