The construction of the section from Pozega to Duga Poljana near Sjenica, on the Milos Veliki highway, in which around EUR 1.7 billion is to be invested, started on March 20, 2022. The traffic route, 75 kilometers long, should be completed in four years, and the main contractor is the Chinese company CRBC.

The agreement on the construction of that section of Corridor 11 was signed at the end of last year in Sjenica, the Government of Serbia reminds.

On the section from Pozega to Duga Poljana, 51 kilometers of the route will consist of tunnels and bridges.

That traffic route is part of the highway to Montenegro, which goes down the route of Pozega – Arilje – Ivanjica – Boljare and is around 106 kilometers long.

The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that the construction of the highway was the biggest and most important project for that part of Serbia and also one of the most expensive ones in the country.

– The highway will cost us more than EUR 1.5 billion, which we planned initially, probably EUR 1.7 billion, because the prices of materials have jumped drastically everywhere in the world – Vucic said.

He pointed out that the construction of the highway was a pre-condition for the construction of tourism facilities on Golija and Pester and the arrival of new investors to that part of Serbia. He pointed out that, following the construction of the highway, Arilje, Ivanjica, Novi Pazar and Sjenica would be connected with Belgrade and also with Sarajevo in the future and added that it would mean a new kind of life for people living in that part of Serbia, it is added on the website of the Government of Serbia.

Vucic added that he hoped that Montenegro would also continue building the highway to the border with Serbia.

The Preljina – Pozega – Boljare section is a continuation of the project of the construction of the highway from Belgrade to the South Adriatic, 258 kilometers long in total. The plan is also to build another leg of the highway from Pozega, of around 60 kilometers, to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
